Quartermann: Max Payne 3, a new Rockstar PS3 exclusive title, more
August 31, 2008
The Qmann is back in the latest issue of EGM and has a lot of juicy tidbits to grind in the old rumor mill. Some of these include updates on the rumored Max Payne 3 game that is currently in the works, and word of a new PlayStation 3 exclusive title from none other than the developers of the Grand Theft Auto series, Rockstar.
Quartermann explained that the original developers of Max Payne, Remedy Entertainment, is too busy to work on the supposed sequel, concentrating all of their efforts on Alan Wake(Xbox 360, PC) instead. However, this doesn’t mean Max Payne 3 is destined to end up in a vapory grave. The internal Rockstar team that created The Warriors will be picking up the project and will continue development on it.
Speaking of Rockstar, the team behind Grand Theft Auto 4 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) seems to be working on an unnamed PS3 exclusive title. As to what this new game will be about or when it will be revealed was unfortunately left out of Quartermann’s predictions.
One thing that Qmann was sure about was that the upcoming Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Lightsaber Duels will not utilize the new WiiMotion Plus technology Nintendo featured during E3. Publisher LucasArts was upset about not being able to implement the new motion sensing technology into their game. The good news is that talks are already underway for developing another Wii lightsaber game which will make use WiiMotion Plus for sometime next year.
That’s about all the juicy info Quartermann had to share with everyone. We’ll have to wait and see just how valid his latest set of revelations will be in the near future. Drop by again here at QJ.NET as we pick up any new updates regarding these rumors as soon as we get them.

DS Daily: Tilting through Tony Hawk
August 31, 2008
Did you play Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam for Wii? If so, it may help determine how you feel about the latest handheld Tony Hawk title, which will include an accelerometer add-on for the GBA slot. We don’t know much else about Tony Hawk’s Motion other than a) it’s a skateboarding game (mostly) and b) there’ll be tilt controls. Having played the aforementioned Wii game, however, this blogger, at least, is somewhat intrigued. How are you feeling? Did you play Downhill Jam, and does that make a difference?
It must be said that I skipped Proving Ground, but did have a blast with Downhill Jam, though I didn’t think I would, at all.

EA, Take-Two finally begin closed door talks
August 31, 2008
After the Federal Trade Commission gave its blessing to continue merger negotiations, Electronic Arts and Take-Two Interactive have finally begun its closed door meeting regarding the deal. However, it seems that both parties will be rather tight-lipped regarding the details of the meeting.
EA made a filing yesterday with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which mentions the “secret negotiations” that it will be conducting with Take-Two. Here is an excerpt from the said statement:
On August 25, 2008, [EA] and [T2] entered into the confidentiality agreement contemplated by the letter of August 17, 2008 from Strauss Zelnick, Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Take-Two to John Riccitiello, Chief Executive Officer of EA, and the letter of August 18 from Mr. Riccitiello to Mr. Zelnick.
The terms of the confidentiality agreement prohibit each of EA and Take-Two from, among other things, publicly disclosing the status or terms of any discussions or negotiations between EA and Take-Two unless EA or Take-Two notifies the other that it is terminating discussions. As a result, EA does not intend to make any further announcements regarding the status of any discussions or negotiations with Take-Two unless and until discussions between EA and Take-Two have been terminated or such parties have entered into a transaction. As previously disclosed, EA now requires due diligence to support any proposal to acquire Take-Two and there can be no assurance that any proposal, negotiations or transaction will result.
EA is also looking into Take-Two’s three year game release schedule. Rest assured that another Grand Theft Auto title will definitely be included in the list, among other things. In any case, we’ll just have to keep our eyes and ears open on any news regarding the outcome of the ongoing talks between the two companies.

Peek-a-boo: Dead Space gets pre-Halloween release
August 30, 2008

Everyone previously thought that Dead Space would get a timely release for Halloween this year. October 31 - no better date than to release what could be this year’s freakiest game on the market. We learn today via press release, however, that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game will be coming in a few days early.
Electronic Arts has announced that, due to speedy developments in producing the game, they’re able to release it early on October 24. That’s a full week right before its original assumed date of October 31.
The PC version is set to follow the PS3 and 360 releases though, and it’s still clocked for an October 31 street date.

DS Daily: Please enter your name
August 30, 2008
When you’re playing a fantasy adventure game or RPG such as, say, Zelda or Etrian Odyssey, what do you call your character? Do you have a single pseudonym you use for all games, do you have several, or do you tap in your own name? Whenever I play a Zelda title, I use “Link,” for three reasons:
- I am horribly unimaginative.
- I want to play the game as the creators intended, and in my head, using “Link” somehow achieves that goal.
- “Chris” just doesn’t fit very well into the Zelda universe, does it? It’s not very Zelda-y.
Maybe you’re really lucky and have a name that is both yours and really suitable for a fantasy setting. Maybe you’re called Zagaroth or something. Any Zagaroths out there?

Square Enix reveals plans of taking over Tecmo
August 30, 2008
The take-over business is sure the in thing nowadays, isn’t it? Apart from the whole Electronic Arts-Take Two hullaballoo, there’s another one in the works, this time concerning Square Enix and Tecmo.
At 1PM today in Japan, Square Enix unveiled its plans of taking over game developer company Tecmo. The developer, responsible for bringing us solid hits like Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive, has been in quite some trouble for a while now, having Tomonobu Itagaki filing a lawsuit against them, and with employees resigning
Penny Arcade Adventures due on PSN this Winter (with Trophies!)
August 30, 2008
Filed under: Sony PlayStation 3, Action, RPGs
Oh, how you yearned for their unrestrained chuckles — their sparkling smiles — to be transformed into naught but a cacophony of wailing and ceaseless misery. What gave them the right? Was it their fancy PCs, Macs and Xbox 360s? Did they so enjoy coasting down The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness on their technological toboggans that they couldn’t even cast a single glance towards you, sitting atop a lonely and immobile PlayStation 3? Well, when the snow falls again this Winter, revenge will be yours.
Also, Trophies! Posting on the official PlayStation Blog (they let anybody on there these days), Hothead producer Joel DeYoung confirmed that the first episode of Penny Arcade Adventures would arrive on PSN before the end of the year, complete with Trophy support and 1080p resolution. “Looking back, I think it’s a shame that we weren’t able to release the PS3 version closer to the initial launch of the game,” he said.
With the game’s engine now up and running on the hardware, DeYoung expects that future episodes will arrive on Sony’s platform in a more timely fashion. No more being left out in the cold, our monolithic friend.

DS Daily: Add-ons
August 29, 2008
A suggestion in the comments of yesterday’s DS Daily about a portable GameCube led to another, all-new thought: would you pick up another add-on for your DS if if offered some sort of neat functionality like that? We say another because the Guitar Grip obviously went over well, and most folks who tried the paddle controller, for instance, with Taito’s games enjoyed it. Too many add-ons may spoil the portability of the system, but are some things worth it?
