Oh, the horror! They’re both adorable, but one is packed with mini-games based on familiar stories, and the other is based on familiar (as in, old school) gameplay packed with aspects that will kick your ass. Show and Tell: Early but eerie
September 10, 2008

In the fine tradition of American retailers, we’d like to get started on Halloween a little early this year. We’ve got pumpkins, costumes, and parties — all things just ripe for you to undertake yourself once the holiday rolls around. Doing something gaming-related yourself? Make sure you let us know!
Also, hey — if you’re looking to get started early on your spooky plans this year, maybe some of these will help get the (ooshy gooshy layers of) brain cranking out some ideas.

Dragon Quest IX plans shrouded in mystery
September 9, 2008
It’s one of the DS-related mysteries that keeps us up at night: what is the dealio with Dragon Quest IX? Square Enix claimed the game was “almost finished” back on February 1st, developer Level 5 has long been targeting a 2008 release, and the game’s official page still has the title down for a launch this year.
Despite this, Spencer at Siliconera points out that there has been no recent press coverage of the game, never mind a concrete release date from Square Enix, who plan to make an unholy amount of wonga from the game. Maybe we’ll find out more at the Tokyo Game Show next month, though just to confuse matters further, the game won’t be playable there. It’s all very bizarre.
Source: Dragon Quest IX might make 2008 …
Source: … but it won’t be playable at TGS.

DS Daily: On the mic
September 8, 2008
We’ve spent our fair share of time complaining about usage of the microphone in most DS games (it’s just often unnecessary), but does that mean the mic has no redeeming qualities? In non-games, certainly, the microphone at times has its uses … but what about in regular old-fashioned games? Sure, it’s fun to yell “Hold it!” at times, but do you need to be able to do so? Would games that use the DS mic be just as good without it?
Tied into this question is, of course, another one — do you ever use voice chat in the games that support it? If you do, do you use a headset, or just the built-in mic?
