Clarification: No Microsoft-made US 130 Gears of War 2 lancer bundle

July 31, 2008

Gears of War 2 won't come with lancer, says Microsoft - Image 1 Earlier, we had reported on the possibility of a US 130 Gears of War 2 bundle that supposedly would come with a replica of the lancer weapon from the game. Well, Fanboy managed to get some additional clarification from Microsoft and, sad to say, that bundle may have been a misunderstanding.

said the following about the bundles they’re offering for the game and the US 130 lancer Cliff Bleszinski mentioned at Comic-Con 08:

“We have officially announced a Standard Edition (US 59.99) and Limited Edition (US 69.99) for Gears of War 2, which will both be available on November 7th, 2008 worldwide. Retailers often create their own bundles to appeal to specific customers. The ‘Lancer’ bundle referenced at San Diego Comic-Con is not a package being offered by Microsoft Game Studios.”

We suppose that CliffyB was simply referring to the awesomeness of the lancer replica that was put on display at Comic-Con, and not necessarily an actual bundle. That said, it’d be cool if someone packaged that up with a Limited Edition of the game and sold it for a reasonable price.

That way, we’d have something to use for our Marcus Fenix Brokeback Mountain cosplay skit. Zing!

Xbox Live Experience dashboard update leaked, possibly running on modded Xbox 360s

July 30, 2008

We’ve got an interesting report related to the ’s fall dashboard update. According to the Wordpress blog of one gamer by the name of Xhavok87, the Xbox Live Experience Dashboard update has been leaked. Not only that, it appears to be running on modded Xbox 360s.

Writes Xhavok87 in his latest update related to the leak,

It has finally been done but NOTE, only modded systems at this point are able to do the install. The process is quite easy if you cannot figure it out but will not be released at this time. A fellow member here by the name of xg4m3r has discovered a path for modded consoles to install the update as you can see in the video above. Like I said in update 8 we are still working on this process to see if we can manage anything on retail consoles. We are not releasing anything at this time but more news is to come soon. Enjoy for tonight because tomorrow should be a whole other day! See you soon!

NOTE: Your NEEDS to have the Infectus 2 Chip in the system for this work. Not just a modded FW hack the chip is required also. Sorry for the confusion!

Below is a video showing the reported hack in action. We’ll try to get more updates on this bit of news as soon as it becomes available, but for now, stay tuned.

Tomonobu Itagaki slaps evidence against Tecmo on second hearing

July 29, 2008

Tomonobu Itagaki - Image 1Dead or Alive series creator and former Team Ninja chief Tomonobu Itagaki presented more evidence against former employer Tecmo in their on-going legal battle. This is the second hearing for the case that Itagaki filed for what he calls unpaid wages and bonuses.

The primary evidence presented in a Japanese court was a copy of a contract dated March 4th, 2005 which promises the developer he would get special incentives for completing the game. Itagaki also claims that the same contract entitles him to 6.66 percent of the product’s total profits.

“I am prepared to reveal this evidence as the need arises for the sake of greater justice,” said Itagaki when asked to comment on the matter.

He added “it is clear that this self-centered behavior by Tecmo Co. Ltd. and its president Yoshimi Yasuda, from the filing of the petition to its subsequent withdrawal, was an attempt to increase my own personal burden in both time and funds needed to combat the petition.”

Also presented was a voice recording and a transcript of it between Itagaki and Tecmo president Yoshimi Yasuda. If the evidence is to be believed, then Tecmo could be in hot water. Yoshimi allegedly told Itagaki “the board of directors did vote on it and a ringi (a document) was signed.”

Itagaki has raised his demands from US 1.3 million to a total of US 1.5 million. We’ll keep you posted for more on this legal saga.
