Default Overclocking your Video Card.

ok for all those non-tech guys who have a decent grafix card but think u need a new one and dont want to shove out the money(you know who you are)

here is one thing you can try that may save you money and get you the performance you want. Its my favorite thing to do and that is Overclocking. Now calm down and dont be saying overclocking is too advanced for me, cuz its not. The only time overclocking is difficult is when your pushing your system to the max, the reason this is so difficult is because it takes along time to perfect, your trying to ride the line of stability and when your system becomes unstable.

Now we will not being doing that cuz to be honest if you have been ocing for at least a few months you shouldnt attempt maxing as you will fry your system. Now you need 2 free programs in order to overclock.

The first is the program that actualy makes changes to you card to increase proformance, that little program is called rivatuner. Here is were to go to download this(its free!) RivaTuner v2.24 .

ok now get that downloaded and installed, now you need program 2, this program will stress your card so that you know it is stable(it wont crash), its called ati tool. Here is where you can get his program(once agian for free!)ATITool.

Now that both of those are installed open RivaTuner now it will open and the first tab is main(this is the only tab you will ever use) In this tab you will see a dropdown box that should already be on your grafix card, if it isnt make it so it is.

Now just below that dropdown is a little triangle, click that and a little mini menu shows choose the one that looks like a grafix card (should say low level system settings).

You should now be in a menu with fan options, it should be set to auto, change it to fixed and move the slider to 100pct duty cycle(this makes your fan be strong 100pct of the time, keeping your card cool)

now select the check box that says apply fan settings at windows startup. then click apply and ok.

Now your fan is set and ready to keep you card cool. Now under the first triangle is another select it and another menu shows. Once agian select the one that looks like a grafix card(this time is says system settings)

This is where you need to pay attention, if you have to write down the settings its at now on a piece of paper. Select enable driver-level hardware overclocking. Deselect link clocks. Now move the first slider +25 and the second +50 of its original number. Increase the 3rd slider by 10.

Now DO NOT SELECT apply overclocking at windows startup! Instead save it where it says custom overclocking profile. Now click apply. Now if you did everything i said nothing should happen...That you can see. if your screen goes black and doesnt come back dont worry just restart and it will all be fine.(if this happens just send me a PM with your systems info aka grafixs card, mobo, power supply and ram)

Now your card is overclocked, now its time to make sure it can handle it(99pct of cards can handle that oc as it is very small) ok now start up ati tool and choose scan for artifacts. let this run for about 20 min if nothing happens then your system is stable and your ready for gaming, or you can SLOWLY increase those numbers untill something atitool freaks out, then just dip down a bit and it and thats the best you can do for your card.

The way atitool works is if your card isnt stable the box will start to rip and you will see yellow boxes. just shut off ati tool when this happens and lower those 3 sliders a bit and try agian. Until your system is stable.

There ya go a quick run through on how to make your card preform better than it is now and maybe this will save you some money. If you have any questions just ask them here or in a PM.

You got a very nice tutorial here. I might aswell try this at home when I'm back. Does overclocking can damage my system?

im going to guess that english is not your first language, but im thinking your asking if overclocking can damage your system, the answer to that is yes and no. Yes if you do it by yourself and you dont know what your doing. No if you follow what i wrote to the T then it will not hurt your system.
