What seemed to be a monthly trend of PS3 firmware updates has now skipped August, and a revision number! Those wacky guys at Sony, eh?
The latest version of the PS3 firmware (1.92), dated 4 September 2007, is now available to download from the UK PlayStation.com "Help & Support" site (links below).
This release improves the performance of the PlayStation Store, Web Browsing, & Bluetooth support, as well as enhancing (improving/fixing?) the compatibility/playability for some PS2 titles.
HOWEVER...
Complaints from the user community have been surfacing that has limited or completely halted online activity from the upgraded PS3 units.
It has been reported that after downloading/installing release 1.92, users have not been able to connect to the PlayStation Store, the PlayStation Network, or specifically the "Warhawk" game servers. The issue has either occurred immediately after upgrade; or a day or so later.
Sony has confirmed that they are aware of the problem & that a fix is being worked on.
I would advise, therefore, that you hold back on updating at this time, until Sony's investigations into the issues are complete just in case the next revision is imminent.
However, if you fancy your chances, read on...
